Wow! Another year of CSA is complete. Thank you so much to all that took part in supporting our farm, eating lots of delicious veggies every week, and opting to slow down just a little on Sunday mornings to come to the farmstand, pick out your veggies, share recipes, advice, stories, and sometimes even food!
Some of you know that before farming, I was in business school. In one of the (heinous) business classes, we had a guest speaker. What I can remember from that lesson was what she asked of us- to write down “what we are meant to do in this world- in two words”. It was easy for me, even at that time, to write “feed people”. I had it in mind I would be working on the business side of food, but was just months away from realizing that farming is my real passion.
Somedays it feels like we are just waiting until we complete a project, harvest a crop, put on a farm to table dinner, that we will feel satisfied and finally release our subconsciously held breath. By the time any of those things happen, we have a new project in mind, are worried about another crop, or suddenly remember we need to work on marketing, and the cycle continues. I don’t think this is unique to farming, but just a human condition.
As we are starting our closing for this season, I suddenly remembered this guest lecturer in that wretched business class, and the easy answer of “feed people”. It made me realize that no matter where we are at in our projects, the season, our farm, that each and every day is already the “destination”.
Thank you all for being apart of our daily “destination”, for being the people that help us take a deep breath and appreciate life, find meaning, and savor the flavor of spring carrots, summer cucumbers, and eggplants with noses.
